Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer recently spoke with ESPN’s Chris Low and provided some interesting commentary regarding this year’s staff and his level of comfort heading into the 2025 season.
“We’re more comfortable now calling each other out because our relationships are stronger, and we know that we all want the same thing,” DeBoer said, “I feel like now we’re closer to having the alignment between staff and players and having the right people here. Everyone has an appreciation for what each other brings to the table.”
DeBoer is entering Year 2 in Tuscaloosa and has drawn a lot of attention following Alabama’s 9-4 finish to the 2024 season. During the offseason, DeBoer and the rest of the coaching staff made it a priority to retain talent, bring in transfer talent, and add players from the high school level. Something that is necessary for Alabama to continue its tradition of winning at a high level and competing for national titles.
Another interesting comment from the interview was made by Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grub regarding how DeBoer and him go about finding consistency.
“You don’t play into the good too much and force yourself through the tough parts,” Grubb said. “Kalen is the same way, keeping it calm when it needs to be calm and being really, really strong when you’ve got to be strong.”
DeBoer will need to be strong this season. That is for sure. All eyes will be on DeBoer and the Crimson Tide in 2025. Another 9-4 season could put a lot of pressure on DeBoer. Based off of previous interviews that have been conducted this offseason, the players and coaches seem more confident that they can return to the Alabama standard and turn things around this season.
The program is in an unfamiliar situation. Without former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, it will be interesting to see how the staff and players handle the adversity and rat poison that will surround them over the course of the 2025 season.
