Former Alabama football quarterback and ESPN college football commentator Greg McElroy recently ranked the top ten wide receivers in college football and included Ryan Williams.
McElroy put Alabama wideout, Ryan Williams at No. 2 behind Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith.
However, the National Champion remains confident in what Williams will be able to do in the future for the Tide.
“Ryan Williams came onto the scene in remarkable fashion,” McElroy said on “Always College Football.” “We know that he’s a great deep threat. We know that he does an amazing job with the ball in his hands. We know how he can track the ball and has unique skill set and being able to time the ball, being able to catch it, secure it and accelerate. He went for over 18 yards per reception last year. What was most amazing about Ryan Williams last year, while everyone wants to talk about his age, I don’t care about that. It was how he had very few repetitions prior to becoming a major difference-maker for the Crimson Tide last year. He arrived last year in June, didn’t have the benefit of going through an off-season program. He was a guy that showed up in June, had to accelerate rapidly to get him up to game speed, and he was able to do that in about two or three months. Now imagine what Ryan Williams is going to be now that he’s had nine months to work and prepare for the upcoming season. One of the biggest leaps we see is from year one to year two.”
Williams’ Alabama career got off to a blazing fast start in 2024 before he wrapped up his freshman campaign by getting selected to the All-SEC First Team after finishing the season with 865 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Alabama native is not participating in spring practice at the moment with the Tide. He is being held out as a precautionary measure.
