One of the biggest observations that Alabama fans made and were torn about was the fact that Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is not animated enough on the sideline during the game.
In a recent interview with ESPN’s Chris Low, DeBoer explained his mild-mannered approach and why he shows minimal emotion on the sideline.
“If there’s anyone I’m yelling at, it’s internally at myself. Maybe the week of prep is different. But on Saturdays, we’re in the fight together. I learned way back not to overreact and keep guys focused.”
DeBoer has received a flurry of criticism for his lack of passion on the sideline during the games. The lack of emotion is concerning to fans that were given the opportunity to watch a very animated Nick Saban roam the sidelines for 17 years. Not to mention, he had a little success as well. Saban won six national championships and nine conference championships during his time at Alabama. He laid the groundwork for continued success at the university. It is now DeBoer’s time to take advantage of the opportunity and build upon the foundation that Saban created.
DeBoer’s response in the interview with Low is sure to come with some kickback, because fans want to see more butt-chewings in 2025. That might happen on several occasions, but it sounds like DeBoer will shoulder the majority of the blame and continue to coach his players the way that he always has. In the past, it has panned out for DeBoer. Will that be able to work in Tuscaloosa? Time will continue to help answer that question.
