Alabama football is set to host its first A-Day practice Saturday in place of its traditional spring game.
College football programs across the country have opted to make changes to their spring outings, and some have gone as far as canceling their games.
The Crimson Tide still wants to honor the tradition of giving back to their fans despite not having an actual spring game. They will have an hour-and-a-half practice fans can attend for free in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will not be broadcast live.
Alabama’s safety, Bray Hubbard sees this as a great opportunity to get in front of fans again.
“Spring is spring ball,” Hubbard told reporters on Thursday. “We still have the same goal to get better each and every day. But honestly, with A-Day, it’s different. But I’m still excited with the fans, getting to play in front of fans, practice in front of fans, whatever you want to call it. There’s nothing like that, being in the stadium, getting to see our fan base.”
Alabama players still plan to practice with the same level of intensity they hope to bring to each and every practice during the showing. One of the Tide’s veteran defenders, Jah-Marien Latham is looking at the practice as yet another opportunity to get better.
“We all know every day we come out here is to practice,” Latham said. “We don’t look at it as a game or script. We know we’re coming out here, iron sharpens iron. We’re coming out every day just to compete and get each other better.”
The A-Day practice will start 12 p.m. CST Saturday in Bryan-Denny Stadium.
