Alabama football’s head coach Kalen DeBoer knows exactly what he wants in his next quarterback at Alabama.
Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell have all been competing this spring for the starting quarterback job. Each signal caller has flashed glimpses of quality play to the Tide’s coaching staff but no official starter has been named.
DeBoer shared no quarterback has created separation while talking to Ryan Fowler Thursday on “The Game” on Tide 100.9. He also revealed what he is looking for in his next starting quarterback.
“I think a lot of it is we want that playmaker,” DeBoer said. “I don’t want just a game manager out there. If we’re gonna win at the level we want to win at, we want a guy that’s gonna produce, make the big plays. Obviously, there’s a piece, too, where you can’t make the big mistakes. We all know that, especially in the critical moments, whether it’s in the red zone, end of games, the half, things like that.”
The quarterback battle is expected to carry on throughout the summer and into the fall.
