Kalen DeBoer continues to hammer down the message Alabama football’s quarterback competition is still ongoing.
Ty Simpson, Keelon Russell and Austin Mack competed for the spot in the spring, and neither gave Alabama football’s coaching staff enough confidence to name a starting quarterback. Simpson looks to have captured front-runner status, but this battle is not done, per DeBoer.
“All three quarterbacks need to continue to get better here this summer,” DeBoer said while talking with media members in Mobile at a Team First fundraiser. “Going to have a great competitive and healthy summer of working together, but also competing for that spot.”
Alabama football’s offensive coordinator shared a similar feeling about the competition during his latest media availability.
“There is still a lot of work to be done,” Grubb said. “I think the message really is that we got to be even better. I know they will take that the right way and understand those things but essentially we are not going to be satisfied with the quarterback room until it is how it is suppose to be, and it wasn’t perfect this spring. I thought we were trending the right way the entire time. The competitive spirit and the acknowledgement of each other as a competitor in that room was very mature, honestly, and it could have been very different than that. I am blessed to work with those guys ever day. I am fired up. We got three really good quarterbacks.”
