Alabama football’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack wants both Tide players and coaches locked in on the mission of getting better each day.

The Crimson Tide are coming off of a 9-4 season where they suffered three SEC losses. All three defeats were on the road. However, the game Wommack feels Alabama’s coaches must be reminded of constantly is the Tide’s loss to Vanderbilt.

Wommack feels Alabama’s defense did a ‘terrible job’ of getting off the field on third down against the Commodores, and he takes responsibility for not doing a ‘good enough’ job getting the Tide off the field in those situations.

There is now a block in Alabama’s defensive staff room, reminding coaches of the game.

“We have blocks here that…everybody signs when we win the game, and when we don’t, we put the score of the game,” Wommack said as a guest on 105.5 WNSP out of Mobile, Alabama.  “I’ve got that block in the defensive staff room. I keep it right there as a reminder. Every minute is an opportunity to better your team, and if you’re not doing that, you’re leaving yourself short. And so sometimes we need those reminders to bring out the best in all of us.”

Vanderbilt beat Alabama 40-35 in Nashville when the Crimson Tide was the No. 1 team in the country. Alabama’s defense gave up 418 yards in the defeat as Vanderbilt dominated time of possession 42:08 to 17:52.
