Report alleges Jalen Milroe deciding to leave Alabama stopped skill players from transferring

2025 NFL Draft Prospect Jalen Milroe, quarterback at Alabama, speaks to the press after the Play Football Prospect Clinic event on Wednesday April 23, 2025 in the Titletown District in Green Bay, Wis.

Things could have gone from bad to worse in Tuscaloosa this offseason.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, one AFC coordinator told him the following:

“We heard out of Alabama all the skill [players] would’ve transferred if [Milroe] came back.”

That is quite the statement considering Milroe is regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, it isn’t too far-fetched.

After all, it seemed as if Milroe regressed as a passer from his redshirt sophomore season to his redshirt junior season. He was not as polished of a passer and struggled to make sound decisions in the pocket.

Alabama’s wide receivers were often dealt inaccurate throws and thrown into bad situations. Milroe was more so dynamic in the run game as he led the Crimson Tide with 726 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Therefore, the running backs were also overshadowed from time to time. There was not a good offensive attack last season oftentimes for the Crimson Tide. There were a lot of ebbs and flows on the offensive side of the ball. Overall, it makes sense that several skilled players would have contemplated transferring given the trajectory the offense was headed just a season ago.

Nevertheless, Milroe is heading to the NFL and Alabama was able to retain the majority of its skilled players from a season ago.
