Over the years, Alabama has developed and produced some of the top running backs in college football. In a recent episode of “The Pivot Podcast“, former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs was asked which players would be on his Mt. Rushmore of Alabama running backs.
His response might interest some Alabama fans.
“You gotta put Shaun Alexander. Derrick Henry obviously in there. See where it gets tricky is like do you put Trent (Richardson)? You know I would say Trent Richardson. You throw Trent Richardson in there. And I’ll probably say Eddie Lacy bro.”
Following Jacobs’ response, co-host Ryan Clark chimed in saying, “Mark Ingram won the Heisman!”
Jacobs quickly reassessed his original answer and added, “Mark. Definitely Mark. Definitely Mark as my four.”
The four running backs that Jacobs mentioned were each trailblazers for success at the running back position at Alabama. Alexander leads the list of players Jacobs mentioned in career rushing yards at Alabama with 3,565 rushing yards. Henry is second on the list with 3,591 rushing yards. Ingram and Richardson come in at No. 7 and No. 8 on the all-time rushing yards list. Each of them surpassed 3,000 total rushing yards over the course of their careers.
There are a variety of different names that Jacobs could have included on his list, but it seems like he put together a well-rounded list of former Alabama ball-carriers to feature on his Mt. Rushmore of Alabama running backs.
