Josh Jacobs reveals Henry Ruggs has been training to make NFL return

Henry Ruggs (#11) walks off field for Raiders after 20-9 loss to Chicago Bears this season

Former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs recently joined “The Pivot Podcast” to discuss his journey to Alabama and the NFL as well as some personal experiences. One of the things that he spoke about was his former college and NFL teammate Henry Ruggs III. Jacobs provided an update regarding Ruggs III and noted a potential return to the NFL.

“He’s training. They let him train and things like that. So, I’m like, you come out man. I don’t know if you will get a chance. I’ve been talking to some people for him. They’ve been saying a couple of teams is willing to give him a chance.”

Ruggs III was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. The native of Montgomery, Alabama spent almost two years with the organization before being released in November of 2021 following a drunk driving incident that led to one fatality. In 2023, Ruggs III was sentenced to 3 to 10 years for his role in the crash.

The former Alabama pass-catcher will be eligible for parole for the first time in 2026.

Jacobs stated on the podcast that he has remained in close contact with Ruggs III.

“I still talk to Henry. Henry still call me,” Jacobs said, “Ima still help out and all them type of things. His wife, his daughter, all of that — we still connected.”

Needless to say, their relationship has not wavered since the incident occurred four and a half years ago. It will be interesting to see how Ruggs III’s parole hearing goes next year and whether or not he will be released from prison.
