Nick Saban’s championship pedigree is arguably as synonymous with his legacy as his love for Little Debbie Oatmeal creme pies.

Saban’s daily routine of two small pies and a black cup of coffee for breakfast has been well documented and even parodied over the years. But now it is an essential snack of the College Gameday crew, but everyone is well aware of who gets the first dibs on each treat.

Gameday host Reece Davis, shared the story on this week’s edition of ‘ESPN College Gameday’ podcast, where he detailed just how much he and the team respect Saban’s addiction to the pies.

Davis told the tale of how he was searching for a quick snack before going on the air and all he could find was the final Little Debbie pie.

“I don’t like to be full before we go on. I either don’t eat or eat very lightly,” Davis said. “I walk in and there is one singular, last one left, Little Debbie oatmeal creme pie. I know Nick Saban is famous for eating those, but I’ve been pulling off at gas stations for 40 years picking those up.”

For a moment Davis believed that he had a small chance of getting away with poaching the final one without notice but ultimately opted for the safer route of leaving it for the seven-time national champion head coach.

“There’s one left and I’m looking and I’m going, ‘He’d never know,'” Davis said. “I thought, ‘Ah but if he wants this, I’ll leave it.’ I think I didn’t get anything.”

Luckily for Davis he did leave the pie for Saban who was well aware that it was the final one in stock and who knows what would’ve happened if someone claimed it instead.

“I saw yesterday there was only one left,” Saban said, “and I wondered if somebody would take it from me.”

Turns out, Saban’s coaching analysis isn’t the only thing widely respected on College Gameday.
