The Alabama football program has garnered a lot of attention this offseason. Several players have been spoken about more often than others in the media this offseason.

Touchdown Alabama lists five players that should be getting talked about more heading into the 2025 season.

1. CB DaShawn Jones

Jones transferred to Alabama last offseason from Wake Forest. The Maryland native played in 13 games and made one start during the 2024 season. His lone start on the year came at the Husky position. As the season progressed, Jones played more and more snaps.

In 2025, Jones is expected to compete for the starting Husky spot on Kane Wommack’s SWARM defense. Jones missed some time early on in the spring due to injury but is expected to be at full health by the time the season starts. With Jones’ experience and versatility, he definitely adds depth to Alabama’s secondary. Jones has the potential to be a very special player in Alabama’s defense and has not received enough attention this offseason.

2. LB Nikhai Hill-Green

Alabama brought in a handful of defensive transfers this offseason. One of which if fifth-year senior Nikhai Hill-Green. Like Jones, Hill-Green is a Maryland native that began his career elsewhere and ended up in Tuscaloosa.

Hill-Green has tallied 204 total tackles and four sacks over the course of his college career. He is a tackling machine and a reliable presence at the linebacker position. With Alabama set to return its two starting linebackers from a season ago, Hill-Green has been talked about very seldom this offseason. He has the experience and talent to be an impactful presence in Alabama’s front-seven. Hill-Green will find a way to contribute to the defense’s success in his final collegiate season.

3. TE Danny Lewis Jr.

Redshirt junior Danny Lewis Jr. entered the transfer portal during the first transfer window after the season. Soon after, Lewis Jr. withdrew and made the decision to return to Tuscaloosa.

The Louisiana native has patiently waited for his opportunity to start at tight end, and it seems like the opportunity has finally presented itself. Lewis Jr. missed all of spring practices due to injury. The majority of the focus in the spring was centered around the healthy tight ends. With Lewis Jr. back in the fold, Alabama has a great blocker and promising pass-catcher back in its tight end room.

4. DL Edric Hill

Despite the fact that he played in nine games in 2024, redshirt sophomore Edric Hill has been rarely talked about in the media. The Missouri native has the talent and experience now to be a key contributor for the Crimson Tide in 2025. Hill will likely serve as a backup for James Smith next season. However, he has the potential to play a crucial role along the interior of the defensive line in the fall.

5. DL Jordan Renaud

One player that has certainly been overshadowed this offseason is redshirt sophomore Jordan Renaud. The Florida native provided valuable depth up front for Alabama a season ago. Renaud played in 12 games totaling 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sack. With LT Overton likely assuming the starting role at Bandit, the path to the field might seem more difficult for Renaud. At least, it may seem that way to the average fan.

However, Renaud can be used interchangeably along the defensive line. His skillset fits the mold of what Wommack is looking for on defense — a positionless defensive lineman that can make plays in multiple different looks and contribute at several positions. Renaud will be a name that Alabama fans will want to monitor closely throughout the offseason and leading up to the start of the 2025 season.
