Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman, Tim Smith is confident in his ability to carry himself like a professional in the NFL because he played five seasons at Alabama.
Smith brings this confidence to Indianapolis after being drafted by the Colts with the 190th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Smith comes off of a progressive collegiate career in Tuscaloosa, having started 32 of the 64 games, while recording 125 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
The Florida native feels the lessons and experiences he earned while playing at Alabama are reasons why he believes he’ll be fully prepared for the NFL level.
“Really just prepared me for life, football, anything,” Smith said in a recent conference call with Colts media. “Mainly to be disciplined, be who you are, understand what you have to do. Playing at Alabama kind of prepares you for the NFL properly. Like, whatever aspect you can think of, whether it’s on the field, off the field, how to carry yourself, how to speak to others, how to be on time, how to be a leader, how to be a great man in general.”
Smith also credits his ability to adapt to the coaching change when Nick Saban retired and Kalen DeBoer was hired prior to his final season at Alabama as another reason why he’ll excel in the pros.
“Like I tell everybody, that was part of the reason why I did stay and return for my fifth year,” Smith said. “Get another coaching style up under my belt, add some more to my person, my arsenal, who I am as a person as well. Going back to, like I said, preparing me for whatever I’m faced with or have to handle in the NFL at the next level.”
Smith will now use this preparation and pedigree to help bolster the Indianapolis Colts defensive front as a rookie in 2025.
