Former Alabama quarterback says season opener ‘not going to be fun’ for Florida State QB

Syndication: Tallahassee Democrat Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos walks into the first spring practice of the spring season on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos recently spoke with On3’s Pete Nakos, and he said that he has dreamed of playing against Alabama, adding that Nick Saban is not there to save them. He also said that the Crimson Tide ‘can not stop’ him.

Former Alabama quarterback, AJ McCarron said these comments added fuel to the fire ahead of the Crimson Tide’s 2025 season opener at Florida State.

“Hey Thomas, you might want to stay quiet on this one,” McCarron said on The Dynasty: A Podcast on the Alabama Crimson Tide. “Just go out and play. Now, you just added fuel to the fire brother. I promise you I wouldn’t want to be you first game of the year. I don’t care how well you can run or how well you can throw it. Once you stand in that pocket and get hit a couple of times, that accuracy that dipped that cost you the starting job, you better find it quick this offseason and during this game because it’s not going to be fun.”

McCarron believes that Castellanos’ comments about Alabama are rooted in ‘stupidity.’

“You’re going to a team that was 17th out of 17 teams in the ACC,” McCarron said. “You’re leaving a team and lost the starting job where you finished 9th in the ACC. Listen, I’m all for confidence, but this is stupidity. Just ask, if he still has a relationship which I doubt it since he yanked him from the starting job, Bill O’Brien. Call him up. Ask Bill how Alabama is. What type of players they have. How they play the game. Let him tell you.”

McCarron said Castellanos should have let his play do the talking, but the check that the Seminoles quarterback will have to cash might be career-altering if he fails.

“If you’re a guy like Thomas, keep your mouth shut, go to work and let your play do the talking,” McCarron said. “But now, you’ve done ran your mouth, and you better back it up in the game or you’re going to hear about it all year. And you might lose your job again and have to enter the transfer portal once again.”
