Alabama football’s inconsistency from week to week in 2024 was head-scratching at times.

The Crimson Tide went from beating Georgia and taking the top ranking in the country to losing against unranked Vanderbilt. Later in the season, Alabama blew out LSU in Death Valley but lost on the road against unranked Oklahoma.

The answers as to why this happened seemed non-existent for people outside of the program, but offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor says he and his teammates understand the why when it comes to falling short in 2024.

“It all comes down to the preparation that week,” Proctor said at SEC Media Days. “Maybe sometimes, we’re a little laxed in that game week and we’ve talked about that as a group. As an offensive line group and as a whole offensive group, we’ve said we have to be more focused and intent on those game weeks. It doesn’t start on Thursday. The preparation doesn’t start on Thursday; it starts on that Sunday after a game when you go watch film and are introduced to a new opponent.”

When asked about what Alabama’s approach will be to preparation in 2025, Proctor kept it sweet and simple.

“It just means if we did have one of those losses or wins, you have a 24-hour rule,” Proctor said. “You put it behind you and focus on what you need to focus on that week, going day in and day out not worrying about the future.”

Alabama will open the season against Florida State in Tallahassee. This week one matchup will put the Crimson Tide’s philosophy to the test and can set the tone for the 2025 season.
