While former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy shared that reliable sources had detailed that his previous head coach, Nick Saban, would one day make a return to the sidelines other individuals linked to Saban have said otherwise.
But former Saban and Crimson Tide assistant Charles Kelly believes any decision for the seven-time decision comes down to one major factor.
If Miss Terry is on board.
“Coach Saban, I’m sure there’s days that he’s missing it because he was so good at what he did. Coach, he enjoyed the relationships that he had not only with his players but his coaching staff,” Kelly said according to the Gadsden Times. “Coach was always excited the first day we came back from vacation, you could tell he was ready to go. So, I’m sure that there’s days that he’s missing it but, listen, coach loves his grandkids.
“He is a great grandfather. There’s things he has, businesses that he enjoys, and I know he probably enjoys the things he’s doing with ESPN — they couldn’t hire a better analyst. I’m sure there’s things that he enjoys doing. Whether he’ll come back, I’ll say that all depends on Mrs. Terry. In her own right, everybody talks about coach, but she was a big part of what made coach so successful. I learned a lot from her as well.”
Kelly served under Saban from 2019-22 as a defensive assistant where he helped Alabama win a national championship in 2020. Following his time with the Crimson Tide, Kelly would have stops at Colorado and Auburn before becoming the Gamecocks head coach.
Despite the wealth of media theories, it does not appear that Saban will be taking to the sidelines again especially after his daughter Kristen reiterated on social media that “he’s not coming back to coaching.”
