Ty Simpson has wrapped up his first scrimmage as Alabama football’s starting quarterback.

Before he talked about Simpson’s performance on Saturday, the Crimson Tide’s head coach Kalen DeBoer mentioned Simpson was named the starter early in the week because of how well he played in Alabama’s first scrimmage, and DeBoer believes the progress showed on the football field in the second scrimmage.

“Specifically for Ty, I thought he came out and executed the offense,” DeBoer said. “Just continues to be steady. Finds his times to make the plays, and today, he actually used his feet again.”

DeBoer believes this aspect of Simpson’s game will catch defenses off guard during the season.

“I think that’s something that people will probably underestimate as we go through the year, just what his ability to make plays and keep plays alive,” DeBoer said.

Simpson uses the second scrimmage to show his consistency with a high completion percentage.

“I thought he was steady,” DeBoer told reporters. “He was consistent, probably a higher completion percentage than what he had last scrimmage, maybe not quite as many explosives. I think that’s a tribute to our defense and what they did as well, so good both scrimmages for him and to continues to make the progress.”

Simpson continues to receive great remarks from the Alabama coaching staff as the Tide prepare for the season opener against Florida State on Aug. 30.
