Last Saturday was Alabama’s second scrimmage of fall camp and Ty Simpson’s first as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback.

Alabama’s coaching staff continues to speak highly of Simpson’s efficiency.

On Tuesday, Ryan Grubb expressed to media members how Simpson was distributing the ball effectively and said how many passes Simpson completed.

“Ty was 12-of-15 with two drops,” Grubb said. “I thought he was very controlled. Distributed the ball right where it was supposed to be. I thought his eyes were in the right spot. I thought he was very disciplined.”

There is no number from scrimmage one to compare this to, however, directly after the scrimmage, head coach Kalen DeBoer highlighted that Simpson had a higher completion percentage and continues to execute the offense better each week.

As Simpson prepares for his first start, Alabama put pressure on Simpson in the second scrimmage to see how he would respond.

“We were trying to put him into some spots and in the fringe and things like that to see how he’d respond and make sure he takes care of the football, keep us in field goal range, all of those things,” Grubb said. “I thought he responded really, really well. Had a calm demeanor when it was good and bad. There was a couple of flows there. We started out really fast again and did a nice job when we did hit a little bit of a lull. I thought he was able to respond.”

In Tuesday’s practice, Alabama’s staff put even more pressure on Simpson by piping in crowd noise to start getting players used to what the Florida State environment could be like when the Crimson Tide play the Seminoles on Aug. 30, and Grubb believes the offense looked comfortable despite it.
