Kalen DeBoer provided reporters with an update on the status of Alabama football’s offensive lineman, Jaeden Roberts, ahead of the Crimson Tide’s season opener against Florida State.

DeBoer said Roberts was going through concussion protocol after the Tide’s second scrimmage.

“He isn’t taking any team reps or anything right now, still making that progress through that protocol that we’re on with his injury,” DeBoer said after practice on Thursday.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder is expected to round out the Alabama offensive line at right guard in 2025.

Geno VanDeMark has been stepping in at right guard with Roberts out, while Kam Dewberry has worked at left guard on the Alabama starting offense.

The Tide’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb was asked about how he felt about possibly starting VanDeMark and Dewberry at the guard spots if Roberts could not go earlier this week.

“Very comfortable,” Grubb said. “Those are two veteran players, very versatile too. They can both play left or right. So, they are interchangeable. But Kam brings a lot of physical presence to him. Geno is a savvy player.”
