Alabama football’s head coach Kalen DeBoer wants another Alabama running back to step up and separate themselves with Jam Miller out with an upper-body injury.
Miller went down with the injury during the Crimson Tide’s second scrimmage of fall camp. This injury has forced Alabama to look deep into its running back room and attempt to find someone it can trust to carry the load at running back with Miller out.
DeBoer feels the search is still on ahead of game week.
“Just looking for someone to separate themselves,” DeBoer said. “That’s really the situation, and I feel like Jam was certainly at a higher level than these guys. I know they’re hungry, and they want to do it. They got to show us. It’s not just one area, it’s all phases. It’s running the ball, it’s pass protection. It’s just all of those things combined. So, again, each guy’s got some tools, got some things that they can do but need them to stand out because there’s kind of a log jam there. And each of them have their strengths, and they all can fit into the offense in some form or fashion.”

It is unclear when Miller will return to the football field. DeBoer updated his injury Thursday during his media availability.
“His injury a little more significant than what I thought when I was there for the press conference with you guys last,” DeBoer said. “Found out more information afterwards. So, he’ll be out. It will go week by week, but he’ll be out for the first game for sure. And we’ll play it from there.”
The running back position is quickly becoming a question mark for Alabama ahead of the season.
