How Alabama defensive film session went after losing to FSU: “You wouldn’t want to be in there”

Alabama football appeared to have had an intense defensive film session after losing to Florida State 31-17 on the road to open the season.

The Crimson Tide’s defense has gone viral for its lack of effort in the defeat. This led to what Alabama linebacker, Qua Russaw describes as a film session no one wanted to be involved in.

“You don’t want to be in there,” Russaw told reporters on Tuesday. “You wouldn’t want to be in there.”

Russaw said the lack of effort on defense was clear when watching film, and the Crimson Tide were focused on correcting this in practice this week.

“I mean, everybody see like watching film, like everybody not running to the ball,” Russaw said. “So, we addressing that at practice today. Everybody was on our tail about getting to the ball and finishing the ball carrier the right way.”

Alabama football’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack told reporters Monday he felt the Tide were prepared for what Florida State would do but a lack of execution derailed their ability to stop the Seminoles’ offense.

“We were not surprised by anything,” Wommack said on Monday. “We were prepared for a number of things that they were doing, including some of the trick plays and a number of their run game things. We did not play to the level that we are capable of as a defense. And so we’ve got to own that as a coaching staff, we’ve got to own that as players, which I think we are. But I have great confidence in our guys that they will get that corrected and quickly.”

Alabama is hopeful the changes it is making in practice this week leads to better film to review on next week.
