Tennessee 4-Star RB ‘can’t wait to’ get back to Alabama as Tide continues to recruit him hard

Syndication: The Jackson Sun Westview's Asa Barnes (5) tries to outrun Covington defenders during a TSSAA Football match between Westview vs Covington inside Hardy G. Graham Stadium, Martin, Tenn., on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.

Asa Barnes made his way to Tuscaloosa over the weekend to take in Alabama football defeating Louisiana-Monroe.

Barnes is a product of Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee, which is the same high school Ty Simpson attended. The 2027 recruit garners a four-star rating from multiple recruiting sites, and he holds offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Ole Miss and others.

The four-star left Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday feeling good about the atmosphere he enjoyed while at the the game and with how Alabama’s running backs looked in the win.

“It was amazing,” Barnes told Touchdown Alabama. “Being a Bama fan growing up, it was like a dream, can’t wait to be back. They have a very deep group with the potential to be the best backs in the country with guys like Jam (Miller) and (Richard) Young. They look great.”

Alabama is one of the school Barnes says is recruiting him hard as the Tide’s staff stay in consistent contact with him. He feels really familiar with what the Alabama program’s standards are.

“I think it is a great program with a really rich history,” Barnes said. “I’ve been watching Bama football since i could walk. I know firsthand what capabilities the program has.”

Barnes rushed for 812 yards on 94 carries in 2024, and he finished the season with 25 total touchdowns. The 6-foot, 205-pounder proved to be a shifty and powerful runner of the football with the ability to catch the football out of the backfield.
