Fox Sports analyst says there is a ‘wide gap’ between Alabama and Ohio State

Fox Sports college football analyst and commentator, Joel Klatt feels there is a wide gap between Alabama and Ohio State.

Klatt joined the Next Round Live on Tuesday, and he discussed the many reasons why he feels the Buckeyes currently are a better team than Alabama. He started his discussion by stating Alabama’s defense is ‘not’ close to Ohio State’s defensive unit.

“If you did just like a side-by-side comparison with Alabama and Ohio State, and you started looking at these teams… just these two teams and how they’re built, the way they play defense, not even close,” Klatt said. “It’s really not even comparable. I think we would all agree with that. Ohio State’s defense is clearly the best defense in college football. They’ve got two of the best players in the sport, and then another two that are probably All-Americans. So they got three, four All-American caliber players on that defense. They’ve given up 41 total points in seven games. Bama’s defense is not that. I think we can all agree on that.”

The analyst also thinks the Buckeyes’ offense edges out Ty Simpson and Alabama’s offense.

“Then you go to the run games and you can say like, well, they’re comparable, but the edge is probably to Ohio State,” said Klatt. “I mean, Bama’s 15th in the SEC in rushing in conference games. I’m looking at some of these numbers, and I’m like, hold on a second. LSU and Oklahoma run it better per carry and I’m like, what? Ohio State’s not great running the football. They’re better by an, an average of a yard per carry than Alabama. And then you go to like, well, Bama’s got the passing game edge. And you’re like, well, do they? Like both of these teams have an elite passing game… The margin between the number one team in the country and the four team in the country is actually kind of wide.”

Alabama is currently rankled No. 4 in AP Poll while Ohio State occupies the No. 1 spot.
