Alabama football’s linebacker, Qua Russaw is working to get back onto the football field after suffering a broken foot earlier in the season.

Russaw was projected to play a huge role on the Tide’s defense as the starting wolf linebacker. His blend of athleticism, explosiveness and power had him primed to be one of the best edge rushers in college football. Unfortunately for the Montgomery native, he went down in the Tide’s fourth game of the season against Georgia.

Kalen DeBoer provided the latest on Russaw Wednesday during the SEC Coaches Teleconference.

“He is doing really really good, on a timeline that we had hoped or maybe even a little bit of ahead, but don’t know exactly what that’s going to be,” DeBoer said. “Just, we’re not quite there yet, but he’s making great progress. You can see just even in his face, he’s feeling good about the direction it’s going and can’t wait to get back out there.”

Yhonzae Pierre has stepped into Russaw’s role, and he has held his own. His emergence has helped the Crimson Tide out a ton in Russaw’s absence.
