Kalen DeBoer labels Alabama wideout as ‘most consistent player’ on team

On the SEC Coaches Teleconference, head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked to name a player on the team who has been the most consistent player throughout the season, and his answer was a player who has shown up in the important moments.

“I think Germie Bernard has just been really consistent from start to finish,” DeBoer said. “And it’s as a receiver, and that’s what you see a lot of, but you know, I feel like he raised his game as a blocker, and there were some run game things that he got involved with. Helped create some explosive, and again, we focus so much up front. I mean, those guys are the ones that can help pop big plays, and his effort all around and his leadership, I would say he’s probably the most consistent.”

Berard has caught 48 passes for 676 yards and scored six receiving touchdowns. His impact as a runner has won Alabama a couple of games this year. He has run the football 16 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns, including the touchdown that led to Alabama ultimately coming back against South Carolina and winning.

He is a valuable player to have that is capable of running any trick play that offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb draws up. The versatility of Bernard has been very useful for Grubb and this Alabama offense, and there is no doubt that his consistency is why the coaching staff wants the rock to be in his hands in critical moments.

DeBoer mentioned Parker Brailsford as a guy that is close to being as consistent as Germie Bernard has been. Players who came from Washington to Alabama have been the bright spots in the rough games the Crimson Tide has endured this year, especially Bernard. He was one of the top players on the field when Alabama played Florida State. The senior went for over 100 receiving yards and caught eight passes.

Bernard was left off the All-SEC preseason lists, and he will likely be an All-SEC wideout at the end of the year if he continues playing like he has so far.
