The Alabama head coaching from the Nick Saban era continued to grow on Tuesday as it was reported that the University of California has landed its next head coach.
Oregon defensive coordinator and former Saban assistant Tosh Lupoi is set to become the next head coach at Cal according to On3.
Lupoi has clear ties to the university as he played for the Bears from 2000 to 2005 and would later begin his coaching career under Jeff Tedford in 2008.
He has now spent the past four seasons with the Ducks under Dan Lanning as the defensive coordinator. Prior to that he had a three year stint in the NFL as a defensive line coach.
But Lupoi got his first major shot as a defensive play caller in 2018 with the Crimson Tide where he helped the team reach the national championship in his fifth and final season in Tuscaloosa.
Lupoi will now be looking to bring his previous success out west to a Cal program that is looking to compete in the ACC.
