Initial takeaways from Alabama losing SEC Championship

Alabama football lost the SEC Championship to Georgia in Atlanta on Saturday.

Here are our initial takeaways from the loss:

Alabama Playoff Chances In Doubt

Alabama football’s playoff chances are back in doubt. Will the College Football Playoff Committee put a 10-3 Alabama team in the playoff, who was dominated by Georgia for the most part in the conference championship? This remains to be seen. The Tide’s playoff chances before the game was at 97 percent, according to the AllState Playoff Predictor.

Ty Simpson needs to regain his rhythm

The Heisman-contender Ty Simpson looks to be long gone at this point. The Alabama quarterback needs to find the rhythm and confidence he once had. If he doesn’t, the future of this Alabama offense will continue to go in a downward direction.

Need Key Injured Offensive Players Back

Jam Miller and Josh Cuevas were severely missed in this one. Miller has not been a dominant runner of the football this season by any measure, but he is the best the Tide has at their disposal at the moment. Cuevas was missed as a dependable target. Kaleb Edwards provided some life once he pulled in some receptions. It is likely Cuevas would have made an impact early in this game if healthy.

Non-Creative Offense Makes Play Calling Look Dull

Ryan Grubb called some plays earlier this season that made him look like a magician of a play caller. It looks as if the magic is all gone.
