Alabama QB Ty Simpson gives health update ahead of Oklahoma: “I’m ready to go”

Alabama football’s quarterback, Ty Simpson is ready to take advantage of some time off against Oklahoma in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Simpson has been sacked a combined 10 times in the Crimson Tide last three SEC games. The Sooners got to the Alabama quarterback four times in November when Oklahoma defeated the Crimson Tide.

The Tennessee product has now had a little over a week to rest up and prepare for the Sooners. He told reporters Monday he feels like he is ready to rip it in Norman.

“I’m great,” Simpson said. “I’m excited. It’s a great opportunity to play in the College Football Playoff. At this point in the season, I don’t know a team who is healthy at all. You know, fire me up. I’m ready to go.”

Simpson turned the ball over twice against the Sooners earlier this season. The interception he threw was returned for a touchdown by Oklahoma’s Eli Bowen. His fumble in the third quarter put Oklahoma in position to take the lead in the fourth quarter.

“They brought some stuff that we hadn’t seen before,” Simpson told reporters after the game. “I got to do a better job of taking caring of the ball. I think we all need to do a better job of taking care of the ball on offense because that’s what killed us. I don’t think they had any turnovers. We had three.”

The former five-star still managed to throw for 326 yards and a touchdown against the Sooners, despite the turnovers and pressure.

Simpson will look to get back to the form he was in earlier this season to help Alabama get into a position to make a run in the College Football Playoff. The Tide takes on Oklahoma on Friday, Dec. 19. Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m. CST.
