Alabama football’s newest addition at DB Carmelo O’Neal fits the long and rangy criteria the Tide staff seems to love.

O’Neal is listed at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. This gives the Tide yet another defensive back, who stands taller than 6-foot-3, joining Dijon Lee and Zavier Mincey.
Mercer listed O’Neal on its roster as a safety, but he started games at cornerback. However, safety was his primary position at Westlake High School in Georgia when he was a college football prospect. The fact he was able to gained Mercer’s coaches’ trust as a cornerback points to his position versatility.
