Alabama makes major move for Thompson DB on Junior Day

Alabama football hosted Junior James for its Junior Day over the weekend, and the Crimson Tide appeared to impressed him in more ways than one.

James is a junior at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, and he is a member of the 2027 recruiting class. He holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon Texas and from a long list of other schools from across the country.

The Crimson Tide offered James last month. Saturday was the first time Alabama’s staff got the junior on campus since offering him.

“It was amazing,” James said. “It was something else visiting the inside of the facility and locker rooms.

Alabama’s safety coach Jason Jones is leading Alabama’s push for James. Jones connected with James and his family during Saturday’s visit.

“Coach Jones and I have a close relationship with each other,” James told Touchdown Alabama. “Ever since I went to the camp in June, me and him have been connected and building a relationship. He toured me around the entire facility while speaking with my family, my little siblings and to me. I feel like it was a blessing to have him treat my family with hospitality and as if it was his own. I also had a chance to speak with Coach Deboer and got to know him better as a coach and coach Wommack to see how he runs his defense.”

A lot of schools will be battling to get a signature from James, but Alabama is among the teams separating themselves for the Thompson product.

“I would definitely say they will end up in my top five,” James said.

At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, James was a ball-hawking defensive back for the Warriors during the last football season. He displayed versatility while lining up at different spots within the Warriors’ defense. He was exceptional against the run when he was called upon to get downhill and make tackles. He also stood out in coverage with his length.
