Heisman Trophy winner calls for Nick Saban to run college football

Even some of Alabama’s greatest rivals are calling for Nick Saban to run the sport. But this time in a different capacity.

Former Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Johnny Manziel, is the latest to demand that Saban be put in charge of running college football.

“We need a Nick Saban,” Manziel said on The Glory Daze Podcast. “We need somebody who knows the ins and outs of what’s going on. To be a commissioner, to be a leader. The leadership board is perhaps the single biggest thing plaguing the sport. There doesn’t seem to be any solution other than put this thing in the court, tie it up in individual states, bring it to the Supreme Court.

“Somebody needs to change the landscape of what’s going on. Shady agents and people that are not qualified to be athletic agents advising the next wave of kids. And while they’re doing that, they’re also taking 15-30% and advising kids to run and chase the next bag. It’s doing a disservice to the next generation of athletes.”

Since Saban retired from coaching the Crimson Tide, he has consistently been theorized and appointed by fans to be the commissioner of the sport. Although there doesn’t appear to be true momentum for Saban anointment, he has been a major advocate for change and regulation in retirement.

He has worked with the current administration in hopes of coming to a solution and is constantly speaking on issues as a member of ESPN’s College Gameday Show every Saturday.

Saban may not have the title or power, but he is certainly trying to lay the ground work for improvement.
