Will Alabama football return to original A-Day format?

Based on the recent upload to rolltide.com, it looks like Alabama football is preparing to return to the previous A-Day format this spring, a scrimmage format that features Team Crimson versus Team White.

On the website, it listed Golden Flake A-Day as a matchup between Team Crimson and Team White, and this is a move that will likely increase attendance for this spring’s A-Day.

Also, when Alabama announced when A-Day was going to be, the press release said “…The annual Walk of Fame ceremony at Denny Chimes, honoring the 2025 captains, will still take place prior to the scrimmage, as will the Walk of Champions.”

The Crimson Tide did not have this format for A-Day last season as the team was pretty dinged up at the time. Instead, Alabama had a typical practice in Bryant-Denny Stadium with fans and media watching.

In Kalen DeBoer’s first season as the Alabama head coach in 2024, he stuck with the original A-Day format that fans have become accustomed to over the years, and it looks like Alabama is returning to the beloved scrimmage format.

With multiple starting spots up for grabs in intriguing position battles, this scrimmage may be the best thing that Alabama can do to answer a few questions this offseason. In this format, Tua Tagovailoa firmly introduced himself to the Alabama fanbase and had a promising showing, and a few months later, he won the National Championship after replacing starter Jalen Hurts in the second half against Georgia. One of the new faces could seize the opportunity and put themselves in prime position for playing time in 2026.

A-Day will be on April 11 at 1 p.m. CT, and there are currently no broadcast plans for A-Day.
