Alabama football’s defensive back, Red Morgan is back in Tuscaloosa for his third season with the Crimson Tide.

Morgan started in five games in 2025 while playing in every game last season. The Phenix City, Alabama, product has primarily played the Husky position within Kane Wommack’s 4-2-5 scheme during his first two years in Tuscaloosa. This position is a hybrid role Wommack leans on for a variety of things within the Tide’s secondary.

“It’s such a versatile position,” Wommack said. “We talked about that before. You got to play man, you got to blitz off the edge, play the run fit, zone drop, all those things.”

The players playing this position typically line up as a slot defensive back. Red continues to be a perfect fit for the position, despite still being a smaller defensive back at 6-foot and 189 pounds.

“Red, he has taken his game to another level right now,” Wommack told reporters. “It’s a very instinctive position, and Red has great instincts, and he has the ability to go make some of those plays in a number of ways.”

Morgan finished last season with 26 total tackles, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries and one forced fumble.
