Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
Simpson was widely regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation throughout his lone season as Alabama’s starter. A plethora of both fans and analysts around the football world were surprised when the Rams selected Simpson at No. 13, as many thought the former Crimson Tide star would still be available in the second round.
Simpson may find himself taking QB1 reps for the Rams in the near future as well, as starting quarterback Matthew Stafford is reportedly set to miss a handful of practices this week in an attempt to keep the veteran healthy for Week 1.
Simpson now finds himself with a massive opportunity in his hands as the Rams’ top quarterback option for the time being. The rookie could quickly begin to benefit from taking QB1 reps while Stafford is sidelined, but Simpson will undoubtedly begin the year as the Rams’ backup quarterback option nonetheless.
