Former Alabama QB says Tide is a Tier-2 SEC team ahead of 2026 season

Alabama football’s former starting quarterback and ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy believes the Crimson Tide is a tier-two SEC team ahead of the 2026 season.

McElroy considers tier two teams to be College Football Playoff contenders, while he considers tier one teams to be National Championship contenders. The commentator and analyst detailed why he feels this way on ESPN’s Aways College Football.

“This is a team with a championship ceiling, but a floor that’s a little less certain,” McElroy said. “You have a young roster, but a very talented roster. They have to settle the quarterback. They have to fix the run game. And then Alabama will be right back to exactly where they want to be, and that’s contending for National Championships again. But I really believe the Crimson Tide will be in a great position to make the playoff again, assuming the run game is fixed, and the quarterback lives up to the potential.”
