AJ McCarron recently fired back at Cam Newton after Newton discussed his coaching skills after a clip of McCarron’s time as the Birmingham Stallions’ head coach went viral last season.

The clip comes from a locker room dispute that appeared to show Stallions’ defender Perrion Winfrey going after McCarron because the coach laid into his team at halftime. Newton felt the clip showed McCarron needed to have better awareness when it came to talking to professional football players.

“I’ma tell you like this, coach or not, you better watch your tone, ’cause you still dealing with grown men. You gonna talk to me with respect,” Newton said on “4th &1.”

McCarron responded to Newton on “The Coach JB Show.”

“Don’t act like you don’t know my name,” McCarron said. “You know my name, Cam, just like I know your name. We played at rival colleges. Like, come on. You know TV. That’s the one time probably all year that I ever lost my mind. Of course, they make it seem like Perrion Winfrey’s talking to me. I wasn’t even in the locker room… when I’m losing my mind right here, Perrion’s standing right in front of me, to my right that you can’t see. Then they edit it, and it’s a new clip there when you show the background. Because I lost my mind when I first came in the locker room. When I was with the offensive staff in our locker room, in the coach’s locker room, I hear rumblings out in the hallway, and I’m like, what the hell is going on? So I open up the door, and I see Perrion’s going at it with our D coordinator.”
