Alabama football scrimmaged on Saban-Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Thursday, and head coach Kalen DeBoer said sophomore wide receiver Lotzeir Brooks did not scrimmage today.
“Lotzeir’s missed a couple of practices and did not scrimmage today,” DeBoer said. “He’ll be out for a few more practices I expect. Don’t expect him to miss any games or anything like that. He did not practice today.”
The injury bug is not being kind to the Crimson Tide’s playmakers. Alabama already has NC State transfer wide receiver Noah Rogers battling back from an injury he sustained on A-Day, and Brooks missing time in fall camp is another blow to the Crimson Tide’s wide receiver room. Also, running back AK Dear sustained an injury during the scrimmage.
DeBoer sounds optimistic that Brooks will not miss games. He has carved out an important role for himself in this Alabama offense and will be a crucial piece to the puzzle this year for DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.
Brooks recorded 32 catches for 441 yards and two scores in his freshman season. He emerged last season and made a significant impact in Alabama’s comeback win at Oklahoma in the College Football Playoffs.
The Crimson Tide host East Carolina on Sept. 5, so if Brooks ends up missing that game, he’ll have one more week to try and prepare for the beginning of SEC regular season play as Alabama will travel to Kentucky on Sept. 12.
