Former NFL player predicts winner of Alabama quarterback competition after watching practice

Aaron Taylor, who played in the NFL for multiple years and is a college football analyst for CBS Sports, feels the Crimson Tide will roll with a former five-star as its starting quarterback this fall. Keelon Russell and Austin Mack are competing for the job in fall camp.

Each quarterback has had their moments in fall camp, according to Alabama’s coaching staff. Taylor spent two hours watching the Crimson Tide practice earlier this week, and he thinks Russell will be Alabama’s starter.

“I think it’s going to be Keelon Russell that ends up getting it,” Taylor said on CBS. “They’re going to be fine. Keelon Russell’s a kid that you can win with, not because of, but can win with. And I think Alabama is strong enough as a team, and candidly, I think Kalen DeBoer is comfortable enough now and caught his breath enough where I think we’re going to see a different Crimson Tide team come out.”

Alabama’s offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, recently stated that the Crimson Tide is close to announcing a starter.

“We’re close. I mean, we’re getting close to game week,” Grubb said. “So I would say, you know, by next week, we’ll have to make that call.”

Alabama’s second scrimmage of fall camp takes place on Thursday. It should answer some critical questions.
