The Alabama Crimson Tide have yet to name a starting quarterback with just 15 days remaining until kickoff.
Alabama quarterbacks Austin Mack and Keelon Russell have been batting for the starting role throughout the majority of the offseason, and each player has flashed major potential in the past. Mack is a junior who has spent three total seasons with head coach Kalen DeBoer at both Washington and Alabama, while Russell is a former five-star recruit with elite potential and upside.
The Tide will host East Carolina at home to begin the season on September 5th. Alabama has yet to announce their plans at quarterback prior to the contest, but East Carolina head coach Blake Harrell appears to be preparing to face both Mack and Russell.
“Regardless of what happens, we are going to have our hands full.” Harrell said. “I’d imagine, just like you might see from us, I’d imagine we might see them both in game one.”
Mack and Russell may find themselves with significant playing time during Alabama’s opening contest against the Pirates. Each quarterback would more than likely prove to be an excellent starting option considering their level of play across the offseason, and the Tide could enter Week 1’s contest with both Mack and Russell ready to play nonetheless.
