Conor Talty and Lorcan Quinn are pushing each other hard in the Alabama Crimson Tide kicker competition.

Kalen DeBoer updated the competition on Monday, and he called the competition extremely competitive.

“I’ll just tell you, I’m not afraid to brag on these guys,” DeBoer said. “They both kicked at the end of a two-minute period yesterday, went back to back. I gave both guys a shot from 58. Both of them hit it, and I just think I’ve told you guys, it isn’t about distance. And yes, at some point you’re only kicking so far, but there was really no doubters when they hit it. These guys are competing, and they are battling, and they’re, like I said all along, two extremely talented guys and so that competition is still going.”

Talty started at kicker last year for the Tide and made 16 of his 23 field goal attempts. His longest make came from 48 yards out. Quinn transferred to Alabama from Marshall, and he made 21 of his 25 field goal attempts, with his longest coming from 55.

It will be intriguing to watch who kicks for the Tide in their season opener against East Carolina on Sept. 5.
