The Alabama defense will face their first true test of the season on the road against Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.

The Tide’s defensive unit as a whole is widely regarded as one of the most talented and experienced groups in all of college football. Kentucky’s offense features a talented group of playmakers headlined by former Texas running back CJ Baxter, as the senior had an extremely impressive outing during the Wildcats’ Week 1 victory over Youngstown State.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer took a moment to speak about Baxter prior to Saturday’s contest, as DeBoer believes the Wildcats may turn to him consistently throughout the matchup.

“Just watching a little bit of film here this morning on him, just a really solid back,” DeBoer said. “Highly recruited, explosive. We know he’s going to get touches and be a priority with what they are going to do offensively.” DeBoer said.

Baxter recorded 48 yards and two touchdowns on nine total carries during Kentucky’s 45-13 win over the Penguins. Alabama’s front seven will certainly have their hands full should the Wildcats turn to Baxter consistently, but the matchup serves as an excellent test for the Crimson Tide’s defensive unit nonetheless.
