Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell is set to get his first taste of SEC football on the road against Kentucky this weekend.
Russell flashed major potential in his starting debut against ECU, as the sophomore compiled 342 total yards and a touchdown in the 48-10 victory over the Pirates. The quarterback is set to face the first true test of his collegiate career this weekend, and Russell will need to be at his best in what will likely be an extremely hostile environment for the rising star.
Kentucky defensive lineman Ahmad Breaux was recently asked about containing Russell on Saturday, as Beaux believes the sophomore will struggle in similar fashion to Youngstown State quarterback Beau Brungard last weekend.
“It’s pretty much the same thing, keeping all our rules and everything, not getting to rowdy or to wild in our rushes.” Breaux said. “We just have to be aware of where he is, kind of like the Youngstown quarterback he was real shifty. Same thing with this quarterback, he’s real athletic and fast. I think we’ll be good containing him and keeping him in that pocket.”
Breaux recorded one sack and one TFL during Kentucky’s authoritative victory over Youngstown State. Russell was the Tide’s lead rusher last weekend with 86 yards, and the quarterback could quickly prove to shine on the ground once again this weekend despite Breaux’s recent comments.
