Grubb feels Alabama offensive operational issues showed up in Thursday practice ahead of Kentucky game

Alabama football’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb feels that operational issues that showed up against Kentucky last Saturday were evident in the Crimson Tide’s Saturday practice.

The Tide’s offense got off to a slow start against Kentucky on Saturday. As a result, Alabama went into halftime down 17-13 after the Tide turned the ball over multiple times and was hurt by penalties.

Grubb feels Thursday gave the Tide a preview of what was to happen in the first half of the game.

“We had a really, really good Tuesday,” Grubb said. “Probably the best Tuesday I can remember in a long, long time. I mean, the energy was great, the focus, the detail. They were ready to go. And I felt that waned a little bit on Thursday. I did not think we had a great Thursday, and I thought some of those operational things showed up in the game.  We work our tails off to correct those in the critical 48 leading up to the game. But, you know, if you don’t have a great practice on Thursday, it’s hard to think that, you know, things are gonna be perfect.”

The Alabama offensive coordinator opened his Monday press conference discussing the emphasis for Alabama on correcting operational issues.

“The obvious statement is early operation,” Grubb said. “That’s the part we’ve got to keep diving into. Quite frankly, we’ve got to be massively better at that.”

Alabama will be back in action Saturday when Florida State makes its way to Tuscaloosa.
