Here are some initial takeaways from the game:

The Referees Played A Role In Outcome

Coaches always teach their players to never let the referees decide a game by allowing them to do so. The Alabama Crimson Tide allowed the referees to do so and some blatant no-calls bit the Tide in the butt late in the game. Georgia played a tough and physical brand of football against the Tide, and Gunner Stockton showed up and made plays in several big moments. Georgia was great against Alabama, but it is hard to overlook the impact the referees had on this one.

Alabama’s Secondary Turning Into Weak Spot

Alabama football’s secondary was supposed to be a major strength of the Alabama defense when the season first got rolling. This was believed to be true by many because of the experience the group possesses. Unfortunately for the Tide, this group has been pretty hit and miss throughout the season. Those misses caught up with the Tide against Gunner Stockton and the Bulldogs. Alabama’s run defense also had some severe leaks, and there were times when the Georgia offense was simply more physical.

Keelon Russell’s Is Dangerous When He Has To Improvise

After shaking off an early fumble, Keelon Russell was one of the bright spots on offense for Alabama against Georgia. The quarterback was brilliant when he had to escape the pocket and extend plays against the Bulldogs. He was able to keep Alabama in this one for most of the game with his athletic ability. This game likely presented him with several opportunities to grow up.

Alabama Is Still In Control Of Its Own Destiny

It is hard to go undefeated in this new world of college football. It simply is. The 12-team playoff has created the opportunity to lose one or even two games and still make the field. Alabama is well aware of this fact, and now they have found themselves in familiar territory with a loss to their name in the first half of the season. How they choose to respond will play a massive role in how their season plays out.
