The New York Giants released former Alabama running back Najee Harris on Tuesday.

This comes after he made comments on Oct. 18 about his role in the offense and how it’s hard to get into a rhythm when there is constant rotation between more than three guys.

“If you’re getting a play here and get taken out four series, there’s nothing you can do,” Harris said. “I don’t know. I’ve never been through this before.”

Harris won a national championship with Alabama in 2020, and he was drafted No. 24 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He spent four seasons in Pittsburgh before joining the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. Harris tore his Achilles last season, but he recovered from the injury just in time for the 2o26 season. He signed with the New York Giants in the offseason, and he has played in five games this season.

Harris carried the ball 31 times for 99 yards. The running back room in New York is crowded, and the Giants elected to release Harris. The team still has Cam Skattebo, Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy Jr.
