Alabama wide receiver Rico Scott had a career-high performance against the Texas A&M Aggies, catching six passes for 156 yards.
156 receiving yards is a new career-high for Scott. He was asked about his performance after the game, but he shared that his mindset is that there is no I in team.
“It’s great, but the win is honestly better,” Scott said. “I kinda learned early on when I got here that not only I, but the team. We hate losing more than we love winning, so anytime we’re winning, everybody’s happy. We’ll watch the film, but after that, no plays carry over to the next week. You gotta get over it and do the same thing next week.”
Alabama did not have Ryan Coleman-Williams for this game, so there was a spot for someone to step up and fill that void. Scott has started multiple games this season for Alabama, and his opportunities increased with his star teammate being sidelined.
For Scott, he aims to not make moments too big or too small.
“I never try to make a moment too big or too little,” Scott said. “I kinda just look at everything the same. We talk about that in the receiver room, so it’s not just me; it’s everybody. Lotzeir, Cederian, Derek, Ryan, Noah, whoever is in the game, we approach it all the same way.”
Head coach Kalen DeBoer reacted to Scott’s showing today.
“It was huge,” DeBoer said. “I thought Rico came up in a big way. Just coming off of last week and a couple of plays I know he would have liked to have had, developing those expectations for himself above and beyond. Keelon [Russell] has a lot of confidence in him, and him and Lotzeir made some big plays for us tonight. Those are things and moments whereas we do get guys back, we become a stronger team. There’s a lot of winnable and teachable moments that are happening today that can make us even better as a football team throughout the season.”
Alabama football has a BYE week up next, and the Crimson Tide will head to Baton Rouge to face LSU the following week.
