Saban tells why LSU is his sleeper to win National Championship ahead of Alabama

Nick Saban said LSU is his sleeper to win the 2026 National Championship ahead of the Tigers taking on Alabama after their BYE week.

The Tigers are led by former Alabama offensive coordinator, Lane Kiffin. LSU is 6-2 and still has an opportunity to make the College Football Playoff after suffering a pair of losses.

Saban discussed why he is choosing the Tigers as his sleeper on ESPN College GameDay.

“LSU has scored over 40 points a game,” Saban said. “They only giving up 16 a game. They beat six teams by plus 20 points. If their skilled players play a little better and Sam Leavitt does not turn the ball over, this could be the team to go all the way.”

LSU has a big test on the horizon after its BYE week. The Tigers will host the Tide at home on next Saturday. Kickoff for the matchup is set for 2:30 p.m.

Kiffin praised the Tide earlier this week.

“These guys really are loaded,” Kiffin said. “They look like the old Alabama teams: really long, fast receivers, really special, unique defensive players. This is gonna be a really big challenge for us to prepare really well and play really well.”
