Nick Saban feels there is no need to further expand the College Football Playoff.

The playoff currently includes 12 teams. However, the format is expected to expand to 24 teams next season.

The playoff format made its debut as a four-team tournament during the 2014-2015 season. It expanded to 12 teams during the 2024-2025 season.

Saban feels 24 teams is too many.

“It’s too many,” Saban said on the “New Heights” show. “There’s not 24 teams in the country that can win a National Championship. So, what is the reason to actually do it? It’s about the money.”

This is the last season of the current 12-team format.
