Initial Takeaways from Alabama beating LSU in Baton Rouge

Alabama football defeated LSU 31-13 in Baton Rouge on Saturday night.

Here are some initial takeaways from the game:

Kane Wommack’s defense is stamped as one of the best in the game

Kane Wommack’s defense kept Alabama football in a good position in this one for most of the game. His defense may not play the way many are used to, but his plan kept an explosive LSU offense off the board several times when they were threatening. This unit, at its best, will more than likely have Alabama in position to beat anybody.

Keelon Russell’s growth continues to be ongoing

Keelon Russell seemed more comfortable on ending drives with kicks in this one. This is something the freshman quarterback has struggled with this season. He has typically attempted to make something out of nothing in these situations, and it would sometimes put the ball in jeopardy in the past.

Ryan Coleman-Williams gives a reminder of his game-changing ability

A walk-in touchdown and a big punt return to set up another score were a reminder of why Alabama missed Ryan Coleman-Williams when he was injured. The wide receiver is one of the best playmakers in college football and having him on the field.

Alabama is chasing a really high playoff seed

Alabama football’s playoff chances are headed north after a huge win over the Tigers. Alabama is now in position to chase a potential BYE in the first round of the College Football Playoff. There is a scenario where this could happen, and the Tide does not have to play in the conference championship.
