What Alabama needs to do to pull away from LSU in second half

Alabama football leads LSU 10-3 at halftime

Here is what the Tide needs to do in the second half against the Tigers:

Fine-Tune Pass Protection

Keelon Russell was able to make some plays against the Tigers in the first half when he escaped pressure with his own athleticism and will. This is something a team typically does not want to rely on heavily. Better pass protection down the stretch against a talented LSU defensive front could play major dividends in the second half.

Disrupt LSU’s Offensive Rhythm

The LSU offense was moving with a rhythm you could tap your feet to at times in the first half. This was done at a very effective level when the Tigers were ahead of the chains. Making some disruptive plays on first and second down could be big for Alabama in the second half, as they could knock off the Tigers’ rhythm.

Stay Committed To Running The Football

Alabama football has not been great at running the football in the first half, but the Tide’s running backs have had their moments. The existence of a rushing attack can help keep the aggressive LSU offense honest in the second half.

Create More Explosives With Wideouts

Alabama was likely using some of its more conservative plays in the first half to set up more explosive opportunities. With the way the Alabama defense has played, some explosive plays could allow Alabama to create some separation on the scoreboard.

Defense Has To Continue To Bend But Not Break

The LSU offense had success against Alabama in the first half while attempting to move the football. However, the Tigers have stalled out while in the red zone. If the Tide can continue this trend, it will only benefit Alabama.
